🏆 FEATURED SUPER-EFFECTIVE CHARITY

GFI

Global meat production strains the climate, food security, and public health, and demand keeps rising. The Good Food Institute (GFI) works on the supply side: rather than asking people to eat differently, it helps make plant-based and cultivated meat that competes with conventional meat on taste and price.

As a nonprofit think tank, GFI does the groundwork no single company will fund on its own. It publishes open-access research, supports scientists and student groups, and advises policymakers globally. GFI estimates that if alternative proteins reached 11% of the market, the climate benefit would equal grounding nearly every plane on Earth.

In his new book, Meat, GFI president and founder Bruce Friedrich argues that the future of meat will be decided by technology rather than moral persuasion, drawing on past shifts like cars replacing horses. GFI also has a Substack, Alt Protein Planet, that covers the science, policy, and market news shaping the field.
